Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then He separated the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:3-4
Two severe storms went through our area several weeks ago knocking down trees and power lines, plunging thousands into darkness and cold temperatures. As I sat in our living room, surrounded by candles, I tried to read but had little success and a lot of eye strain. I couldn't watch TV; my phone had little power and I became easily frustrated. Dan was stuck at a restaurant trying to get take out. I assessed the situation and stopped feeling sorry for myself and thanked God that this was just a temporary problem. I began to pray for the people in Alabama who were suffering from devastating tornadoes and a peace settled upon me.
Light verses darkness.
We see this theme depicted in many forms of art and literature. Christ refers to Himself as the light of the world. " I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12.
What do all these references to light really mean? When we invite Christ into our hearts and minds to be our LIGHT, we are asking Him to lead us in ways of goodness and mercy; to fill our lives with His grace and blessings. These blessings enable us to turn away from the darkness of sin, temptation, and hopelessness. His light sustains us and helps us to push forward through the hard times.
The Sunday after Easter, we celebrated the beautiful feast of Divine Mercy commemorating the visions St. Faustina received from Christ. The image of Divine Mercy shows two beautiful rays of white and red light emanating from Christ's heart with the words, "Jesus, I trust in you," at the bottom of the image. Again, Christ's sacred mercy depicted by the light.
So, why am I concentrating so much on light? Because an awful celebration of darkness will take place in Boston this weekend, starting today. The Satan Con organization will hold their sold-out convention at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel, complete with speakers, entertainment, and a Satanic Marketplace. The speakers will address "reproductive health care," (abortion), expanding abortion in New Mexico, and organizing after school Satan Clubs! The group is suing the Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, because she would not allow the Satan Con to deliver the opening "prayer" at the customary city council meeting.
Talk about the evil of sin and darkness taking over a city this weekend.
In researching this convention, I heard an interview with leader Lucien Greaves (Lucifer) on Boston Public Radio talking about this group and how they work for "Social Justice." This organization wants to install a statue on the Capitol grounds. It will be modeled after a similar statue that is in Little Rock, AK. This statue shows the demon Baphomet, a satanic figure, sitting with his one hand raised as if he is teaching. He also has two fingers of that hand raised just as the Christ's hand is raised on the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue. He has horns coming out of his head and cloven feet. Two young children, a boy and a girl, look up adoringly at the demon. This statue was installed in Little Rock on August 16, 2018.
If you watch pro-abortion demonstrations, you will often see women screaming hate messages about how abortion is health care and how no one is going to limit their right to abortion. The mother's right will always take precedence over the baby's right to life. Have you ever asked yourself why they are so angry? How can they rally to be allowed to take the life of their baby all the way through pregnancy, up to the day of delivery and call this a right or health care?
Why are schools allowing drag queens to read stories to children in kindergarten?
Why are record numbers of teens suffering from isolation and depression?
The list of questions can go on and on. I feel like a huge umbrella of darkness is covering our country.
But, we are called to be a people of hope. We are still celebrating the Easter season where Christ overcame death and all forms of darkness and brought HIS LIGHT INTO THE WORLD. I really believe that Christ is calling each and every one of us to increase our prayer time, to pray our Rosaries, to receive the Sacraments, to read holy Scripture and be beacons of light and hope to others. You know the expression, "Kill them with kindness," well, let's turn up the LIGHT OF CHRIST AND PUT OUT THE DARKNESS WITH PRAYER.
Please pray for the people who are attending this convention in Boston this weekend, that Christ's light will break through their hearts and eliminate the darkness of sin and evil.
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never distinguish it. John 1:5.
" This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine."
